Community building and artist development through

MUSIC IMPROV

WHAT WE DO

We jammin’

When venues and community spaces are suffering, where does underground culture go? From jazz to hip hop, the underground has always been the source of major cultural movements.

For the last 3 years, we’ve been nurturing a new generation of creativity and expression, without having to resort to doing things in traditionally underground, gritty spaces.

We cultivate the new underground in beautiful venues, using a degree of protection from the eroding effects of online attention. It means spaces where you can find and be yourself – without personal gain being a driver. And it means getting people to drop their guard, to connect authentically as humans. Music, as a shared experience, is one of the oldest ways to bridge gaps, and foster deep emotional bonds.

WHY WE DO IT

The future of music needs space to play, connect and create

Play as an attitude of curiosity and exploration used to happen organically when musicians didn’t need to work three jobs to survive, life was affordable, and music scenes were easy to participate in.

The London Borough of Chelsea in the 60s , and King’s Road specifically, is a great example of how easily one could participate in a music scene. Eric Clapton came to SW3 from Surrey to be a part of the thriving swinging 60s scene – and lived in a gorgeous building and artist squat that is now a Pizza Express.

On nearby Edith Road, Mick Jagger shared a grimy flat with Keith Richard. Down the road, the Beatles, the Doors, and the Rolling Stones all drank in the same pub. Meanwhile, a brick building round the corner, was where Paul Mccartney laid down some tracks.

Today, there is no equivalent easy access ecosystem for the grassroots to connect, play and experiment. Our free entry jam nights, however, create a bubble of this kind of non-transactional, non-utilitarian ecosystem where creativity and connection thrive.

ENTER AfterNOiSE

Building community through music

Attracting everyone from music lovers, deep listeners, live music junkies, solo eventgoers, and curious cats to hustling, up-and-coming artists, gigging or nomadic instrumentalists, hobbyist or aspiring musicians, bedroom producers, stalwarts of the grassroots scene – and everyone in between.

AfterNOiSE is one of the most welcoming, diverse, and entertaining spaces in London, period.

The talent is through the roof. The heart-led vibe in the room engulfs you like a giant hug. And joy, the pure presence and appreciation of the moment (something that is scarce today), is available on tap.

THE CHERRY ON THE CAKE

The music industry agrees: community is the way to grow artist careers today

“We are witnessing the death of the “Mass Audience” and the birth of the “Micro-Community.” The music industry has spent a decade obsessing over how to get a million people to listen to a song once. The next decade will be defined by artists figuring out how to get 1,000 people to care forever.”

Music Supervisor, Joel Gouveia.

OUR JAM NIGHTS CAN

Disrupt the industry by changing the established model of artist development

As the above quote said, our jams get the proverbial ‘1,000 people to care forever.’ Case in point:

In 2025, we launched our pilot artist residency meets artist development programme. We took a complete unknown artist and exceptional talent, with no music, no confidence, no online or stage presence.

In the 6 months under our wing, and as host of our jam, she wrote her first EP – and sold out her first headline show. Still with not a shred of recorded or released music.

Transformed as a person and as an artist who could now hold a room and entertain a crowd, by the end of the night, 170 people were chanting her name.

We want to strengthen our ability to nurture and grow talent through jam nights that allow musicians to test new music, grow as performers, and build superfans at the very early stages of their career.
